Siemens EDA Sponsors Over 1,000 Software Licenses for NIC and Universities in Vietnam
Hanoi, August 22, 2024 – The inauguration ceremony of the Semiconductor Design Faculty Training Program, combined with a technical seminar on IC Design and PCB Manufacturing, sponsored by Siemens EDA, took place in Hanoi. The program was organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in collaboration with Siemens EDA, Vietbay Technology Company (Vietbay), and SunEdu.

During the event, Siemens EDA announced the sponsorship of 300 licenses of Valor DFM software for NIC and several universities. This brings Siemens EDA’s total sponsorship to 1,200 software licenses for NIC and 18 selected universities participating in the Semiconductor Industry Workforce Development Project towards 2030, aligned with Vietnam’s vision for 2050.
In her opening statement, Thứ trưởng Bộ Kế hoạch và Đầu tư Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc, “The National Innovation Center and our partners from universities and enterprises have collectively worked on several meaningful initiatives, deepening the state-university-industry relations, all aimed at training thousands of talented semiconductor professionals. Through these efforts, I am optimistic about Vietnam’s opportunities in the global semiconductor value chain and our aspiration to succeed on the global technology map.”
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc spoke at the event
Dan Hoz, Founder and General Manager of Siemens EDA’s Valor Product Division, expressed admiration for Vietnam’s semiconductor industry development strategy and policies. He highlighted the strategic collaborations with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to position Vietnam as a promising destination in the global semiconductor industry.
Hoz added, “This is a pivotal moment for Siemens EDA’s collaboration with the Vietnamese government in building an ecosystem and developing semiconductor workforce training. Four months ago, at the Memorandum of Understanding signing event with NIC, Siemens EDA sponsored 900 cutting-edge chip and PCB design software licenses for Vietnamese universities. Today, Siemens EDA continues to support Vietnam’s comprehensive development of the semiconductor electronics industry by sponsoring an additional 300 Valor software licenses – software crucial for accelerating PCB production, facilitating direct connections between designers and electronic board manufacturers, and creating a digital twin of the entire PCB production process.”
At the event, Dam Thi Hong Lan, Director of Vietbay Technology Company, Siemens EDA’s authorized distributor in Vietnam, confirmed the completion of software license transfers and installations. Siemens, NIC, Vietbay, and SunEdu collaborated to organize a hybrid semiconductor faculty training course, which received double the expected enrollment, demonstrating strong market demand and interest.
“We believe that with this training program, Vietnam will produce more lecturers and experts fully acquainted with Siemens’ world-leading technologies. They will confidently apply and train engineers and students, contributing to Vietnam’s semiconductor industry workforce and global competitiveness,” said Dam Thi Hong Lan.
The technical seminar following the inauguration featured Wayne Chow, a semiconductor expert from Siemens EDA, introducing the Calibre physical chip verification tool. Calibre is a leading global solution for chip verification before production, utilized by major semiconductor corporations such as Samsung, Amkor, Xilinx, Mediatek, Fujitsu, and Renesas. Siemens EDA’s EBS experts also presented specific solutions for SI/PI/EMI verification for high-speed PCBs with Hyperlynx, and manufacturing process verification and SMT line connection with Valor DFM/PP. These solutions play a crucial role in optimizing the time and cost of IC and PCB production amid increasing design complexity and performance demands.
Today’s program highlighted NIC’s leadership and connectivity role between businesses and universities. NIC provides the best conditions and platforms for Vietnam’s talent to excel, meeting rigorous market demands and preparing them to compete globally. Siemens EDA reaffirmed its commitment to accompany the Vietnamese government in developing semiconductor industry talent.
SunEdu, a strategic partner of NIC in implementing the Prime Minister’s goal to train 50,000 microchip engineers, co-organized today’s inauguration class. Previously, SunEdu successfully conducted similar ToT training courses with Synopsys and Cadence tools, attracting participation from lecturers and experts from over 20 universities, academies, and major technology corporations like FPT, CMC, and VNPT.
